The Intersection of Science and Society

The role of science in society is to help the public understand the fundamental processes that occur in their daily lives. Scientists have the obligation of making sure the general population can recognize potential health risks and understand challenging ethical questions about science. To strengthen their relationship to science, members of the public can carry out their own science experiments, and educate themselves independently about the basic concepts of each scientific discipline. The government’s role in science is to make sure the experiments and studies done by scientists are in accordance with society’s laws, but they should not dictate what is being studied; that role should fall upon the scientists themselves.
