Zoobiquity

The Chicago Humanities Festival lecture I saw was called Zoobiquity. The lecture was about the similarities between humans and animals, and how these similarities can be important in the discovery and treatment of diseases. It was interesting to learn that animals suffer from the same diseases as humans, both physical and behavioral. For example, a certain kind of bird eats the fermented berries off of trees and becomes intoxicated. These birds then fly erratically and die from flying into buildings and other things. Its interesting how similar these behaviors are to human behaviors. Behaviors I formerly thought of as being exclusively human are actually found throughout the animal world as well.
